Child model, acting, commercials, television and film headshots
Never underestimate the importance of having great headshots as booking agents and casting directors will look at your headshot and make up their mind whether you will be taken seriously for commercials, film and television roles in two seconds or less.
How does your headshot compare to Tyler's at left?
If you have the slightest doubt as to how well your headshot compares to the headshot at left then you are in dire need of getting a new one as having great headshots is the fastest, easiest and most important thing you can do to increase your odds of landing those all important career building print, film, television and commercial bookings.
Up until about 20 or 30 years ago, acting headshots were close cropped. Then a few photographers in Los Angeles started shooting "headshots" in color that were cropped mid-chest, at the waist, mid thigh, mid calf or even full length which proved to be very popular with casting directors because all of a sudden they were able to see body types (thin, medium build, athletic, etc.) which made it much easier for them to cast people for film, television, commercials, etc. This trend soon spilled over into the modeling world as well and today it is unusual to see 'old school' close-cropped headshots for modeling or acting purposes inmost major markets.
Advice from the Screen Actors Guild: "Legitimate talent agencies normally do not advertise for clients in newspaper classified columns nor do they solicit through the mail. If a purported talent agent seeks to send you to a particular photographer for pictures, hold your wallet tight and run for the nearest exit. Chances are he or she is a phony and receives a cut of the photographer's fee. If you need photographs, choose your own photographer. - and find another agent."
Models and actors with up to date professional photos and comp cards from a trusted source typically get five to ten times as many bookings as those without.
